So there we were, early one Saturday morning in late August, having just put the newspapers out when in walked a well groomed, handsome gentleman and his friend. Well groomed gentleman looked around, picked a few items of local produce, and asked which Wainwright covered the Grasmere area. "He is someone famous, we should know him" whispered Sherill. Of course ...he looked famous, but we couldnt think who he was. Not nice to say "hey, who are you!", so we didn't. We had a converstation about the rewriting of the Wainwright guides and off he went.
That eveneing we were catching a rare moment of TV and laughing at a repeat of The Vicar of Dibley, when Dawn French said "well it could have been so & so or so & so or even Ian McKellan! Thats who it was we both exclaimed in unison........oh my goodness we had Gandalf in our shop!!!! Maybe some magic will desend on us for helping Gandalf on his travels.
